Things To Do
Though Coronado is a small community, there is plenty to do when you stay on the island.
Most obvious perhaps is the beach itself! Consistently rated one of the top beaches in the world, Coronado Beach is the perfect place to relax on golden sand, or hit the waves and try your hand at surfing or boogie boarding. The bay offers the opportunity to explore the water and San Diego by boat or jet ski. If you find yourself at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, you might want to check out their gondola ride through the water channels of the Cays.
As mentioned, there are many shops and restaurants to explore, but the newly renovated vintage theater on Orange Avenue offers a fun evening for all to catch movie. The Lamb’s Players Theatre is home to a very talented group of local actors where you can expect to be treated to a wonderful production. History buffs may also be interested in stopping by the Coronado Historical Association Museum of History and Art on Orange Avenue to learn more about the development of the peninsula and the rich military and aviation history that accompanies it.
A walk through the Hotel Del Coronado is worth your while. Here you can check out the beautiful architecture, the Crown Room that inspired L. Frank Baum’s Emerald City, and walk through the Japanese Gardens. The Ferry Landing offers a concert series every other Sunday, as well as a farmer’s market every Tuesday. Spreckels Park also features the family friendly Concert in the Park every Sunday through the summer.
It’s easy to get involved in activities around the island as well. The recreation center offers a variety of classes and a beautiful aquatic center for kids and adults alike to enjoy. Coronado has its own beautiful 18 hole golf course, you can join a class doing yoga on the beach, try paddle boarding in the bay, rent a bike and head down the Strand, and other outdoor groups offer the promise of a new experience and a way get to know others in the community.
For kids, there are plenty of sports teams and artistic endeavors throughout the year. In the summers programs at the community center offer a chance to explore new activities like cooking, gymnastics, and swim lessons. Camp Coronado and the Junior Life Guard program at the Silver Strand beach have been local favorites for years.
